Thousands of art-loving tourists are expected to visit the small but vibrant town of Yinnar to experience ‘The Sculpture Culture Capital of Gippsland’ in March and April.
The biennial, seven-week event showcased a broad range of work created by both amateur and professional sculptors in two main categories- indoor and outdoor sculptures. This year, artists are competing for over 20,000 dollars in prizes, including the prestigious 10,000 dollar prize for best exterior sculpture.
More than a hundred small sculptures will be displayed indoors at the Arts Resource Collective (ARC), while about eighty outdoor sculptures will be placed along footpaths, nature strips and parks in town.
Local community organisations and businesses support and contribute to the event and many activities are held every Sunday during the seven-week-period including free sculpture workshops, live music, artist-led talks, and demonstrations.
Founded by local artist Nicole Allen, GSE was inspired by the transformative power of art to bring people together. The entire event aims to create an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere, where everyone from art aficionados to curious families can find something to enjoy.
‘This exhibition celebrates the spirit of Yinnar and the art community in Gippsland,’ Nicole said. ‘It’s an experience that merges world-class sculpture with the warmth and accessibility of our hometown.’
GSE has become a vital part of Yinnar’s identity, drawing over 20,000 visitors. Proceeds from artwork sales contribute to Yinnar’s public art collection, leaving a legacy of creativity and community pride.
