Upgrade Your Walks

The Kalimna circuit is one of East Gippsland’s most popular walking trails become of its stunning location combining temperate rainforest and scenic views.

This week, upgrades to key facilities at the walking track will be officially opened.

The upgrades sare part of a larger project that received $2.2million in funding from the previous Federal Government secured by East Gippsland Shire Council. The project involves a range of new works to improve the visitor experience for locals and tourists in Kalimna. Part of the works involve the creation of a loop walking trail linking key attractions in Kalimna – the lookout on Hotel Road, Kalimna Jetty, Jemmy’s Point and Jemmy’s Point Reserve.

Jemmy’s Point is a lookout area that provides spectacular 270-degree panoramic views of the Gippsland Lakes, the Entrance, Bass Strait and 90 Mile Beach.

The works will improve accessibility and safety for walkers, as well as offer great views over the Lakes, the Entrance and the ocean beyond. New signage and interpretive facilities will provide a more comprehensive and informative experience for visitors.

Federal Gippsland MP Darren Chester expects the improvements to be popular over the summer months.  “Providing safer opportunities for locals and visitors to get outdoors and exercise on paths, tracks, and trails is one of my highest priorities because it’s good for our health and good for the economy.”
