A HEALTH-conscious collaboration will have you moving and nourishing your body at a pop-up community event this weekend.

On The Mat Pilates (otm) has collaborated with Float – Açai Bowls, Brews & Brunch to hold Pilates & Acai at 9am on 7 December at the NRMA caravan park in Cowes. Guests of the caravan park, locals and tourists are welcome to join in on the Pilates classes, instructed by otm owner Sheridan Hauser.

With over ten years’ experience teaching Pilates and movement, Sheridan created otm about a year ago to build a community where girls felt safe and empowered to move their bodies as well as to connect with likeminded people. OTM hosts event in Melbourne and Phillip Island and retreats in Bali.

‘We just recently hosted our first self-love Pilates retreats in Ubud, Bali where we shared a transformative week with fifteen girls,’ Sheridan said. ‘Our retreats are designed with girls in mind, creating a space to build connections not just with others but also to reconnect to yourself.’

Sheridan said Pilates has transformed her own life believed it could be beneficial to everyone, regardless of your age or fitness.

‘Pilates completely changed my life and my relationship with my myself. I truly believe that our bodies and minds are our home and creating a home we feel safe in is so important. Pilates taught me so much about this and I fell in love with myself all over again,’ she said.

‘I think the most common misconception (about Pilates) is that it is not for everyone, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Pilates is a movement that is accessible to everyone and can benefit everybody. Over the years of teaching, I have seen Pilates guide and support all different life stages. It’s just requiring people understanding their bodies and what works for them to give them the optimal support.’

The otm pop-up event in Cowes this Saturday will be the first of a series running every Saturday until 25 January at the NRMA Caravan Park, kicking it off with the collaboration with Float.

‘We are so excited to be working together and supporting each other,’ Sheridan said. ‘We love Float and their açai bowls are the best we have had so we jumped at the opportunity to do an event together!’

Float owners, Kayli and Darcy began their business earlier this year after brainstorming ideas about what to do with their lives while travelling in Tasmania.

‘We are both young but weren’t drawn to starting uni but we still wanted to be evolving and learning in life.  We wanted to do something that combined our passions and gave us a balance between work and the life we wanted to live,’ Kayli said. ‘We started working towards Float as we felt it was a way for us to work for ourselves, allowing creativity and passion to be our driving forces. We built our food truck ourselves over winter and just started operating on cup weekend.’

Kayli said she and Darcy were thrilled to be working with OTM at the pop-event on Saturday.

‘We wanted to combine both of our businesses to create a fun community-based event with wellness and community connection at its core,’ Kayli said. ‘We love the values of On The Mat and admire Sheridan’s passion for Pilates so we were super excited to be apart of this event. We love supporting and being involved in community events.’
