Book Heaven

If walls really could talk, those inside a revamped Garfield building would charm you with the stories they would tell.  

Just One More Page is a vibrant, welcoming literary journey where three beautiful rooms and hundreds of books invite readers to explore, sit and immerse themselves into the pages of the old and new.

It’s a credit to owner Kate Willis, who is spreading her love of reading to the community and beyond, igniting a flame for young new readers and keeping the fire lit for others more advanced.       

Kate had a childhood dream to open a bookshop, but raising a young family took up most of her time and attention.

As the children grew, so did Kate’s spare time, and she was able to rekindle her love of reading while juggling her motherhood duties. Last year, after support and encouragement from her peers, she opened the doors to Just One More Page.

‘I wanted to create a space that people could wander through different rooms and feel comfortable just browsing and taking their time, so having a few different seating options were important. I wanted a place where people could come and chat books and hopefully feel welcome,’ she said.

Kate said she was extremely appreciative to locals, friends, family, visitors, other business owners and local community groups who have thrown their support behind the bookshop. Many have become regular customers.

And with its fully stocked shelves and stacked tables of different genres, there really is something for everyone.

There are picture books, graphic novels, history books, cookbooks, biographies, classics, activity books, author debut’s, bestsellers, and a designated area for local authors and illustrators too.

Shortly after opening the shop, and after receiving several requests from customers, Kate started a book club. There was so much interest, she now hosts three book clubs that that cater to different availabilities and interests.

‘I love that book clubs connect people and are a great social activity. It not only encourages you to read, but encourages you to read things you normally wouldn’t,’ Kate said. ‘I love that it generates great conversation and can help you see things from a different perspective. I love that you can attend the club after not having enjoyed a book but then, after listening to other people’s opinions, walk away with a new appreciation for the book.’

‘And I definitely love the laughs we have.’

Kate said that the book club, as well as customer recommendations, have prompted her to read books that she normally wouldn’t choose.

‘The majority of my reads this year have been recommendations from customers and friends. I also don’t mind a chat, so I love the conversation that follow,’ she said. ‘This year I have read and listened to more than I ever have. I have more opportunity, and now as it is essentially my job, I find it very important to make sure I am well researched.’
