Planning a function or a special occasion? We have the answer….
It’s a simple, scientifically proven way to improve your mental health: rise early, get out in nature, connect with like-minded people, plunge into a cold body of water.
Now hundreds of people are getting behind a movement which does just that.
Not-for-profit organisation Cold Nips is currently touring through Victoria, stopping in Cowes tomorrow (Wednesday, 18 September), hoping to inspire people to live a happier, healthier life.
Founded by Perth best mates Jian and Ryan, Cold Nips was created with the mission to promote wellbeing, understanding and positive mental health among people. Teigan Woolard from Cold Nips said that it’s a simple concept at its core, built around five key values of connection, nature, discomfort, purpose and joy.
‘It all starts with an early alarm, a shared cold water sunrise dip then followed by post-sips and real connection over a cup of warmness.’ Teigan said.
Since Cold Nips began five years ago, there has been a huge positive impact on thousands of Australians lives.
‘We see numbers upwards of 800 plus across our regular free community dips in Perth, Gold Coast and Sydney across the summer season,’ Teigan said. ‘People also love our paid events including breathwork, ice-bath sessions and sunrise silent discos.’
This is the first year Cold Nips has run an Australia Tour, hosting 100 sunrise dips in 100 days across the country. It began on 2 August in Cairns and will end on 9 November in Perth.
The 100 dips span across beaches, creeks and lakes all over the country from big cities to rural small towns to spread the Cold Nips movement with the goal to impact 100,000 people and raise $1M for mental health charity partner Happiness Co.
‘We invite others to join us on these mornings to dip as much as a toe or stay in the water as long as they like. We start the mornings with our signature connection session where we encourage participants to find someone they don’t know and connect through a question,’ Teigan said.
‘This is then followed by our dip where we see the profound benefits of cold water immersion and you’ll find us in the water rain, hail or shine. We then warm up and connect further with our post-dip sips at a local café.’
Tomorrow (Wednesday 18 September) Cold Nips will be meeting on Cowes Beach at 6:15am to facilitate dip 48/100, followed by post-dip sips at Penny Lane Island Cafe.
‘We’d love to see as many locals down as possible to help us reach our goals!’ Teigan said.
Cold Nips is open to dippers of all ages and abilities from children through to the elderly.
