Being a mother is one of the toughest jobs a woman can have. While it may be rewarding, it can also be isolating, confusing, and incredibly challenging. But Cristy Russell is on a mission to help others on their motherhood journey.

Cristy,  of ‘Empower the Woman’,  facilitates several workshops a year and this Sunday, 25 August, is inviting mothers of daughters aged up to twenty to ‘Raising Girls to Become Empowered Women.’

The mother of two daughters has worked in the education sector for more than twenty years and has a wealth of experience and credentials that she draws upon to help empower women so that they can raise strong daughters.

‘As a mother, we want nothing more than the best for our daughters. We want them to be happy, fulfilled, safe, to stand in their power, to experience life, to feel success and failure, to know their strength as females and women and to have the capacity and resilience to face challenges,’ she said.

‘We all want our daughters to be fierce, a little wild and untamed, soft, connected, loving, intuitive, creative and unapologetically themselves. Ultimately, we deeply desire our daughters to grow into kick arse women!’

Unfortunately, Cristy said, this generation of girls and young women were struggling to navigate a world that is vastly different to the generation before them. There are several new challenges facing mothers and young women in today’s society, especially since the introduction of social media. There has been a rise in the rates of anxiety, eating disorders and even suicides across young women in Australia.

‘The role of the mother has never felt so complex or poignant in this chapter of history,’ Cristy said. ‘It feels like there is a lot riding on us to raise and guide our daughters to become the empowered women that we know is their birth right.’

Sunday’s workshop aims to give mothers the space to share and hear stories from other attendees, provide practical strategies that can be implemented at home, and learn from cutting-edge education from evidence-based information.

‘I am an educator, mentor and sacred space holder and I don’t profess to solve women’s problems but instead provide a gateway for women I work with to empower themselves in a safer and supportive space,’ Cristy said. ‘I am not the expert or guru. The women I sit with and work with are coming together with me to co-create. I come with life experience, education and training, compassion and a desire to support women to thrive not just survive.’

This is the second time the Raising Girls to Become Empowered Women workshop will be held after the first one in May this year was a great success with rave reviews.

‘This day was so incredibly helpful for me as a mother,’ one attendee named Bri said. ‘The simple art of sitting and putting time aside to see the world through my daughter’s eyes and at different stages in her life helped me grow empathy and understanding as to why she does certain things.’

Mia said she came away from the workshop with strategies to use immediately and some to use in the future. I loved sitting with other women and learning from each other’s experience,’ Mia said ‘Lots of reflection afterwards which I look forward to delving into further.’’

The workshop will be held on 25 August from 9.30 until 5pm at The Heart Space Studio in Churchill. Financial investment is $227 , and $197 for single mothers. This includes all food, drinks, a notebook and pen. A payment plan is also available. If you would like to chat further, contact Cristy on 0417 352 912.
