Finding Clarity

When Den Lim was unexpectedly made redundant from her career, she turned to Google. That decision changed the course of her life.

‘Being made redundant made me question my identity and direction,’ Den recalls. ‘I had given so much of myself to my career. I worked 24/7 for years, so when I had that ripped away from me, I was heartbroken and really struggled to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

‘In a moment of despair, I Googled ‘Life, What’s Next?’ and life coaches came up.’

Den didn’t know what a life coach was but after visiting a number of websites, she made a phone call, booked in with a life coach, and ended up working with that coach for many transformative years.

Den continues to engage with coaches and mentors. They help her calibrate navigate challenges and see things clearly. She firmly believes in the value of having someone objective in your corner, especially when life feels foggy.

Now, a life and business coach herself, Den helps people who feel stuck or uncertain in their personal or business life to find clarity, direction and purpose.

‘Even if things are going well, a life coach can help you see what’s possible, sharpen your focus and take things to the next level.

‘When I started seeing a coach, I was at a really low point and just needed to see what my next steps were,’ Den said. ‘.I was able to come up with some new ways of thinking. We did some cognitive behaviour therapy work, and my coach encouraged me to reframe the ways in which I thought about life and its challenges. They got me to think about my options and what control I had over the situation. It helped me build confidence again.’

When an opportunity came up to explore coaching courses, Den decided she wanted to give it a go. Since then, she has been helping individuals, smalls businesses and entrepreneurs who are struggling with business operations or personal issues to rebuild momentum, reconnect with what matters to them and to take meaningful steps forward.

‘Life coaches don’t actually fix things or provide answers, instead we create space for contemplation, ask great questions and seek to pull out wisdom from within,’ Den said.

Den also founded and facilitates several networking events, including Latrobe Women Creating Conversations and Connecting Connectors Cuppa.

‘Latrobe Women Creating Conversations came out of Hazelwood Power Station closing down. It was a way for the community to come together and build connections and share updates about what is going on in the community. Eight years later and we are still running monthly lunches and dinners, and we welcome people from all different walks of life to attend,’ she said.

‘Connecting Connectors Cuppas is just as the title suggests – it is about connecting those people who like to connect! Events are currently set up in Bairnsdale (bimonthly) and Warragul (monthly).’
